Pink Dolphins Of The Amazon Rain Forest

The Pink Dolphin, also known as botos is a friendly animal whose only enemy is human. They live in the rivers of the Amazon. Their brain capacity is more than 40% greater than humans, but they still get hurt and killed by them and are now an endangered species because of this. Their pink color comes from the water it lives in, the food it eats and capillaries close to the surface of the skin. The rain forests where the Pink Dolphins live are endangered because of human destruction and chemical dumping in rivers. Pink Dolphins are also caught in fishing nets. To try and help stop the decline in their numbers, many captive breeding programs have been started.

The dolphins have a long beak to get prey and small eyes which help them see well in the water. Pink Dolphins can swim at a speed of up to 20 mph. They have very little to protect themselves. They might use their flippers (also used for mating) and their long beaks. Their best protection is staying in a pod or group. When in danger, the dolphins can make squeaking sounds to call to it’s pod. Pink Dolphins eat large quantities of food every day. Not liking to eat alone, they’ll make a loud sound to call the rest of their pod. They enjoy crustaceans, catfish and small water fish. At night, they search for zooplankton.

The dolphins are similar to grey dolphins but have some differences. It doesn’t have a dorsal fin. Instead it has a hump on it’s back. The Pink Dolphin’s tail is bigger and it has two flippers that look like leaves. The neck is long and there is a little hump in the forehead and it has the ability to turn it’s head 180 degrees.

CHEERS, The Best TV Re Runs

cheersThanks for the article from Quinton Wynn

Cheers was always one of the funniest shows on television. Many nights I sit and just watch Cheers re runs for hours on satelite tv. The cast was great, Ted Danson as Sam was one of a kind. While the setting was in a bar in Boston, where everyone knows your name, the storylines provided were very lifelike. There was the waitress who struggled with juggling work and family, the regular, who came in everyday to escape seeing his wife. The addition of Woody Harelson was one of the best casting decisions they made. He really made it seem real he was a country boy who was very naive and no matter what came at him, he still had an innocence about him, like he never even wanted to do anything he wasn’t supposed to. I remember watching Cheers when it was new and it still gets even better every time I watch it. The cast interacted so well with each other, they were not always nice to one another, but the insults always fit, and even in the hard times, they were like an extended family.

With a houseful of children, I crave some “me” time in the evening and with the more adult stories in Cheers I would not let my younger children watch it so this gives me the time away from kids and the laughs I need at the end

Fact Or Fiction: Did Jesse James Rob From The Rich And Give To The Poor?

jesse leftFor years, I’ve had a fascination with the outlaw Jesse Woodson James (1847-1882). Was he the Robin Hood some people claimed  or was he a cold-blooded murderer and thief? (He didn’t rob from the rich and give to the poor as it was rumored at the time. He lined his own pockets.)

I’ve visited his home in Kearney (Clay County) MO three times, his grave in the Mount Olive Cemetery (also in Kearney) twice, and the Clay County Saving Association in Liberty, MO which he robbed. It was the site of the first daylight armed bank robbery in peacetime. I also saw his home in St. Joseph, MO where Jesse was assassinated by Robert Ford   who shot him in the back while he was either dusting or adjusting a picture frame. Ford wanted to collect the $5,000 reward offered by then Missouri Governor Thomas T. Crittenden.JesseJames family

Jesse and his brother Frank James were Confederate guerrillas during the Civil War. After the war, they became members of various gangs that robbed stagecoaches, banks and trains. Jesse was the most famous of the James-Younger gang who tried to rob a bank in Northville, Minnesota in Sept. 1876.

After Jesse was killed in 1882, he was buried on the family farm. Later, his body was removed to Mt. Olive Cemetery. Rumors surfaced that he was alive and living in the west under an assumed name. There was always a question over the years whether it was actually Jesse’s body buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Kearney, MO. In 1995, Jesse’s body was exhumed. It was found that the DNA of the body was consistent with the DNA of the living relatives of Jesse James. The remains were re-interred once again, under the name “JESSE JAMES.”

At the time of his death, Jesse was married to his childhood girlfriend Zerelda and had a son and a daughter.

Have You Ever Thought About Mountain Climbing?

mountain climbing 2mountain climbing
These days, more and more people are getting into what are known as extreme sports. One of the fist known extreme sports, which was done by millions of people before it ever became an extreme sport, is mountain climbing. This is a fun and exciting way to get plenty of exercise, and, if you can’t get to a mountain, the sport has become so popular that you can find indoor rock walls to climb in just about every city and town across North America.

When you get into rock climbing, you will gain strength, improve muscle tone and increase flexibility, all things you need to be able to mountain climb in the first place.

Outdoor Rock Climbing Lets You Commune with the Great Outdoors

When you decide to make rock climbing your sport/exercise of choice, you will be getting into a sport that will really allow you to commune with nature. You will be out there facing the elements, and must use your physical strength to get yourself to the top of the rock or mountain. Rock climbing is great for your cardiovascular system, and when added to the fact that you will be breathing in fresh mountain air, you will be doubling the benefits.

Don’t Let Foul Weather Stop You

Often, especially for those of us living in North America, we don’t always live in an area where the weather is good enough to mountain climb year-round. But, you don’t need to let this stop you. As we mentioned earlier, there are all kinds of places where you can climb on indoor rock walls, and you get pretty much the same benefits as outdoor rock climbing, with the exception of the great scenery and fresh air. But, it’s better than nothing, and you’ll more than likely have loads of fun doing this as well as climbing outdoors.

Wear the Right Gear

You need specific gear for most sports to ensure safety, but this is especially true with mountain climbing. You need to wear clothing that is comfortable and not constricting, but that is not loose-fitting either, because you don’t want pant legs or sleeves catching on rocks and branches, causing you to lose your footing or grip. Make sure that you wear a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads, and wear the proper footwear. If you are unsure of what you need, talk to a sporting goods expert to get the right gear.

Once you have your gear, and a place to climb, you’re all set to start off on many fun and exciting adventures that are going to help keep you in awesome shape.

Top Chef DC

Guest post written by Kurt Robertson

”Top Chef” has been one of the great reality shows that’s really risen to the top while dregs like “The Hills” have finally sunk to the bottom of the huge reality show mix. But the funny thing is, I hate to cook. I just love to eat.

The location of the different seasons doesn’t really bother me. I guess it gives them some new challenge ideas and flair. But the game seems to stay the same. If it’s not broke, why fix it?

But a lot of the sites that they show of the area in clips make me want to visit DC again. I went a few years ago with my kids and went to the requisite Smithsonian and various presidential monuments. However, we didn’t explore the city as much as I would like to.

I’m thinking of planning another trip there for when the kids are out for winter break in December. Actually I’ve already started looking up information on wild blue internet service so we can get some great deals of flights and hotels. Maybe I can try and find some restaurants that have food as great as the food on the show looks.
